Our History

Who was Denny Buehler?

Denny Buehler was born to Edwin and Mary Lou Buehler and grew up in the close-knit community of Greenhills, OH. He married his high school sweetheart, Peggy, and had 3 children: Jenny, Mary, and Ed. In 1980, Denny was diagnosed with Leukemia. After trying everything, doctors turned to what was then an experimental treatment- a bone marrow transplant.

The Denny Buehler Memorial Softball Tournament

Denny went to Seattle for treatment with Peggy and his sister, Cynthia, the bone marrow donor. Denny's other sister, Mary Beth, with the help of the Greenhills community, organized the 1st co-ed softball tournament to help pay for the bone marrow transplant. Denny passed away soon after, but the tournament lived on in his memory, and has been serving the community for over 40 years.

Impact

When struggling to make ends meet in the face of mounting medical bills, over 50 families and individuals have received direct financial assistance from the DBMF.
