DBMF Board Selects Heather Strupe as 2021 Tournamnet Recipient

The DBMF Board is proud to name Heather Strupe as the recipient for The Denny Buehler Memorial Tournament in 2021.

Heather, who grew up in Greenhills and currently resides in Forest Park, is a wife and mom who has lived with type 1 diabetes for over 50 years. She recently noticed that her blood sugars were becoming more unpredictable, and on May 7th she experienced a seizure caused by extremely high blood sugar. She collapsed on her dining room floor and was not found for hours as she lay there having seizures.

As a result, Heather has been diagnosed with encephalopathy and delirium caused by the blunt force trauma she sustained, but doctors suspect that she may have suffered a stroke as well due to the trauma her brain endured. Heather spent 3 weeks in the hospital, as well as time in an extended care facility. Every day she works with speech, physical, and occupational therapists and has made some progress in her physical and cognitive abilities.

When she returns home from the rehabilitation facility, Heather will require 24/7 care in the short term, as well as ongoing therapies to regain her cognitive functions. Her situation will continue to develop, and there is hope for her recovery, but she needs our support to make it happen.
